This short film was put together over the course of an intense week in November 2018 to accompany our track “Nuit”, which we debuted at the Edinburgh Festival of Sound on November 17th 2018 at the Teviot.

The title comes from the one clear vocal sample about 45 seconds in, which together with the mysterious and dark dreamlike atmosphere of the improvised piece of music immediately suggested Cocteau’s “Belle et La Bete” as a source of possible inspiration for a new film.

We’d also made contact with Todd Billeci, a photographer from just north of San Francisco. He very kindly granted us the liberty of freely manipulating his fantastic macro photography of bizarre non-vertebrates and mysterious doll still-life photographs (his “Lifeforms” and “Docile Bodies” series respectively).

With these two seeds of ideas in place, we set about making this film as a homage to Jean Cocteau.
